Steve Jacobs, Jr.
Steve was appointed Director of Hockey in June 2006 after graduating from the University of Massachusetts where he played NCAA hockey for the Minutemen in the formidable Division 1 Hockey East.
UMass: A physical forward Steve battled injuries to play in 74 games for the Minutemen…Scored game winning goal freshman year to hand Maine their first ever playoff loss at home and propel UMass into the Hockey East final four for the first time…Played in longest NCAA playoff game in NCAA history when Minutemen lost to Maine in triple overtime in the Hockey East championship game junior year.
Before UMass: Played right wing for four years at Cushing Academy…Scored 55 points (20 g, 35 a) to lead team in scoring senior year at Cushing…twice named to New Year’s Prep Invitational All Tournament team…Twice named to Hockey Night in Boston All Scholastic unit, New England Division 1 Prep School Offensive Player of the Year (2002) and Best pro Prospect (2002) …During his career at Cushing he tallied
(48 g, 70 a) and team had a 117-14-5 record. Was Most Improved Player and Best Defensive Player at Cushing…Team captain senior year…Played five years for the Minuteman Flames in Boston Metropolitan Hockey League before attending Cushing.
Steve and his wife Emma both graduated from UMass and currently reside in Roswell.
Marcus Gustafsson
Born in Uppsala, Sweden.
Played youth and Junior hockey with Uppsala AIS before making the Senior team as a 17-year old (Swedish Div-1). Moved to the United States in 1994 to study and play ice hockey for the University of Maine. During his 4 years in Maine he was part of a Hockey East Championship team and a NCAA National Championship runner-up his freshman year. Holds two school records (Most points in a game, 6; Most assists in a game, 5) and scored the game winning goal in OT vs. New Hampshire to win the NCAA National Championship in 1999, his Senior year.
Marcus played professional hockey with Vancover Canucks(NHL), Syracuse Crunch(AHL), Lowell Lochmonsters(AHL), and finished off his career with the New Orleans Brass(ECHL).
What Marcus brings to the Cooler:
“I have had the fortune of being coached by some of the most recognized coaches in Sweden; one of the most successful college coaches in history; and coaches that have won the Stanley Cup. All of them had a unique way of coaching and I want to share what I have learned from them with this program”.
Marcus, his wife Cassidy and their two children, Emma and Lukas, moved to Alpharetta from New Orleans in 2005.
Brian Yandle
The Cooler welcomes new Hockey Director Brian Yandle to take over the reigns from Steve Jacobs, Jr in administrating all Travel, House, Learn to Skate and Roller hockey programs. We would also like to thank Steve Jacobs, Jr for his outstanding leadership in helping take the hockey programs to another level, and wish him luck in his new opportunity in the corporate world. Steve will stay involved at The Cooler as a Cooler Academy Hockey staff member for camps, clinics and coaching.
Brian comes to our organization with a strong hockey background and resume. Born and raised in Boston, Brian played his youth hockey for the AAA Boston South Shore Kings where he teamed up as defensive partner with Pittsburgh Penguins star defenseman Ryan Whitney to win the 1997 AAA Quebec Pee Wee Tournament Championship. He then moved on to Cushing Academy where he played for Steve Jacobs, Sr and captained the 2002 35-1 team with Steve Jacobs, Jr. Brian then moved on to star for 4 years at Hockey East power University of New Hampshire where captained the 2005-06 team and was a two time Hockey East All Star and All American defenseman. Brian's professional career began in the American Hockey League with the Lowell Loch Monsters and Worcester Ice Cats in 05-06 and to the ECHL with the Phoenix Roadrunners where he overcame a serious leg injury to play into the 07-08 season. After a trade to the Augusta Lynx Brian was selected as an ECHL All Star and played in the All Star game this winter. Brian recently retired from Pro Hockey to come to his new position at The Cooler.
Brian is the son of Patty and Buddy Yandle of Milton Massachusetts. His father Buddy played college hockey at Boston College and was a Massachusetts high school coach for 25 years. Brian played for his Dad with the South Shore Kings. His brother Keith is also a former Cushing Academy star who is currently playing with the Phoenix Coyotes in the NHL. His sister Lauren will graduate from UNH this Spring. Brian is living in Roswell with his fiance Joanna and their 17 month old son Brian.
